    The Port of Amsterdam was originally part of the City of Amsterdam, in 2013, the management, operation, and development of the Amsterdam port area were corporatized and incorporated into the legal entity Havenbedrijf Amsterdam N.V. It operates on behalf of the (State) Harbour Master and Water Management and the municipalities around the North Sea Canal, including Amsterdam. It is one of the largest sea ports in Europe, managing and operating an area of about 1,200 hectares. It focuses on the growth of bio- and synthetic fuels, hydrogen activities, circular and manufacturing industry. The port is known for its efficient, safe, and environmentally friendly handling of maritime traffic in the North Sea Canal Area.
